The other day I was doing a little window shoe shopping on Solestruck, scrolling through their very eclectic range of y u m m y shoes. Scroll, scroll, KAPOW!! these babies appeared— lets call them Boots of Awesome, my eyes bulged from their sockets, my tongue fell from my mouth, I fell into a dizzy haze of euphoria, the words Come To Mumma rolled off my tongue. My mouse hovered over the boot and my body language changed faster than you can say GET THE HELL OUT!
at $400 they were a no-go. I sat there all deflated then thought hang-on I have those thrifted cowboy boots buried in the back of my wardrobe, I picked them up for $10 and have never worn them; I’m going to DIY my own version. I jumped into my car and headed down to my local op-shop to see what I could gather up. It was my lucky day; I found a suede tasseled belt $2, a bandana $1 (loved the frayed edges), turquoise beaded necklace $1, a rad cowboy belt $4 (score) as well as a leather belt with large buckles $3. I was seriously chuffed with my finds and headed home ready to make my own Boots of Awesome.
Check them out! they turned out just like the Boots of Awesome! I cut down both the centre front and back, folded over the leather, mixed up the araldite epoxy, glueing the sides into position, then I cut the belts in half and either tied or glued them back together for each shoe, layering each thrifted component onto the boots till I achieved the Boots of Awesome look.
