Every year I compile my Top 10 Albums of that year it’s just me documenting out aloud really so, don’t pay too much attention to my write-ups it’s just a brief explanation to how the album transported me and why it made it in my top 10. If the album gives me goosebumps, makes me happy, has me singing loud in the car, transports me, puts a lump in my throat, has me dancing through the house playing air guitar the album has made it’s way into this list. What an awesome year in music hey?
NUMBER 1 | tUnE-yArDs - WHOKILL
African inspired tribal beats, percussive vocal layering, quirky Merril Garbus is the bizness. This album is killer from start to finish. Yes I have my ticket I wouldn’t miss it for the world. It’s absolutely brilliant! BRILLIANT.
NUMBER TWO | WILD FLAG - WILD FLAG
If I were to ever play in a band again it would have to be something close to this band I’m a massive Sleater Kinney fan and when Carrie Brownstein introduced us to Wild Flag I was there swinging my air guitar arm in windmills to her rocking dirty guitar riffs. So freakin good, sooo freakin good.
NUMBER THREE | KANYE WEST & JAY-Z - WATCH THE THRONE
Photoshoot fresh looking like wealth. Hells Yeah!! Kanye and Jay-Z’s ‘Watch the Throne’ cause it’s THAT good.
NUMBER FOUR | RAPHAEL SAADIQ - STONE ROLLIN
Have you heard this album? Do you like Northern Soul? what are you waiting? *sings* LOVE!
NUMBER FIVE | PJ HARVEY - LET ENGLAND SHAKE
After hearing Pj Harvey’s last release ‘White Chalk’ I was a little worried and apprehensive to hear this album, praying she wouldn’t drop another mediocre album on us she came through, she wrote this classic album. It gives me goosebumps. Thank you PJ.
NUMBER SIX | CITY AND COLOUR - LITTLE HELL
Dallas Greens voice is like velvet, yep! this album gives me goosebumps too and a lump in my throat just like Jeff Buckley’s ‘Grace’ did. I’m not too bothered that Alexisonfire have split we still have Dallas.
NUMBER SEVEN | BON IVER - CALGARY
Another beautiful male voice I think it was the year for beautiful male vocals. Calgary-soothing and relaxing, kinda like if you had wings and you were flying solo above the earth, totally void of any chaos. Yeah! that about sums it up.
NUMBER EIGHT | JAMES BLAKE - JAMES BLAKE
I don’t do dubstep but I do James Blake, this is dreamy, I got lost inside this album. I know this sounds a tad weird but you feel like you’re on the bottom of the ocean in some sort of vessel just floating, you get totally taken away in the moment like a good book. His voice is unusual all those sounds swishing about in your headphones? Mesmerising.
NUMBER NINE | KURT VILE- SMOKE RING FOR MY HALO.
How can someone so young sound so old like Tom Petty or Neil Young. I like the laziness of this vocals, I like his sloth like guitar strums. It’s mellow baby m e l l o w like you’ve smoked a big fat joint baby. It’s a great album but you already new that hey?!
NUMBER TEN | THE HORRORS - SKYING.
The boys in there black skinny jeans and goth hair styles have grown up. Damn if these boys got any hipper?… they have matured into their own. Stargazing my way to work and annoying my husband with this album.
What was your number one Album of 2011?
