A Garment A Week logo

Wowsers! Here we are, my year in sewing A Garment A Week For A Year. This is a major accomplishment for me, a personal challenge I seriously didn’t know I could achieve. I started sewing along to The Sew Weekly themes midway through 2011 and fell in love with the idea of creating a garment from a theme; like a mini weekly Project Runway if you like. At the end of 2011- spurred on by The Sew Weekly community to sign-up as a contributor for 2012 I thought why the hell not. I had to pass this by my hubby first because he is a major contributor to what I do on a weekly basis-photography wise and, putting up with me and my being a silly perfectionists with my sewing. He waved the green flag, he is amazing, I love him no end for his never-ending support and constant cheerleading. Thanks babes. I also want to thank my supportive readers and commentors that take the time to stop in and write lovely things about what I have sewn both here and on The Sew Weekly, it blows me away. Those random emails that turn up in my inbox thanking me for inspiring them to be creative and to just be yourself—in my opinion the best person to be THANK YOU!!!! a huge thank you to Mena and the remanding SW contributors for an amazing year of sewing, much love and respect to you all.

I have spent a little time putting this one-stop post together of my Year in Sewing, each picture links to the original post if you want to read and see more photos it has it’s own category for future reference too. I would love to hear if you had any favourites in the comments so grab a cuppa and turn up your speakers. Hope you enjoy this post as much as I did sewing this year.

See you next year. Happy Sewing.

Do what you love

Phenomenal! Such amazing style! So much colour! You are my sewing hero! (and I’m *this* close to getting my own red All Caps).

May I ask what company are your black tights from? They are so wonderfully opaque.

Looking forward to your adventures in 2013. Happy New Year!

  • Wow, what an amazing mix of colours and patterns and FUN! I’d love to see a photo of the inside of your wardrobe sometime Kazz – I bet it’s an exciting explosion of colour. :-) I hope you keep on sewing lots next year – your creations always bring a smile to my face.

  • Did I have favourites? OMG what didn’t I love, you have the most incredible style and collection of shoes. I looked forward to the weekend to check out what incredible explosion of colour and style would hit my computer screen. Girl, you have talent! I loved that corset belt, WOW! Thank you for all your SW posts. I’ve enjoyed following the adventures of sewists across the globe and looked forward to your imaginative, energetic entries. What did I like most? Anything that came about because of geometry. You’ve given a whole new meaning to that field of study with your creative use of squares, rectangles, and so on. And the color! So courageous and inspiring! Happy New Year from an appreciative admirer!

  • my top 3 fave projects from 2012…
    1) your 1960′s challenge dress – that print is awesome!!
    2) the plaid challenge jacket – pink plaid and the overlap, plus the zip, just loved it!
    3) the missing piece challenge bathing suit – the print, the pattern, inspirational.

Happy New Year!! Thanks for sharing with us!

  • Rox:

You always amaze me, Kazz! I’m kinda speechless! You have had one of the most prolific and rewarding sewing years… I am very envious. I love everything you made, but my favorites have to be the concrete jungle dress (very ladylike and funky at the same time!), your spirit head-dress, the Weetzie bat dress (amazeballs!) and the Bamboo banga dress (would love to make my own version!). Looking at all you have accomplished, it is quite inspiring. Ooh, and I LOVE the choice of Hong Kong Garden as the soundtrack to your sewing year…

  • Ally:

  • Erika:

Oh Kazz, you are so super-duper inspiring!!! I’m making a shirt RIGHT NOW inspired by you (Victory patterns simone, with blue knit for the bottom front and back and a blue striped cotton for the top back and black and white crazy pattern for the top front … thinking it needs MORE PATTERN!!!)

    thanks for all of this!

  • Kazz:

Erika that is so fantastic!! Do you have a blog or Flickr? I’d love to see the outcome. More pattern? you can never have too much hehe.

  • Wow, what a year! My favourite is the swimsuit. I splashed out and bought a 50s influenced swimsuit a year ago and have been pondering how I could make some more.

  • Kazz:

Thank you Adele. Have fun making your swimsuit, I love mine, I’m making plans to make another sometime soon. Happy sewing.

  • Hi Kazz. I love your blog! I especially like your Anouk dress, which inspired me to make my own this year. I just wanted to show you a couple of fabrics. When I saw them I immediately thought of you.

  • Kazz:

Hi Joanne, those fabrics are delish, that first one?? YUM! I can just see that made into a Summer type of suit, fitted jacket and shorts. Just lovely, thank you for popping in to show me. Good luck with your Anouk, it’s such a great pattern.

  • I’ve just stumbled upon your blog, and just wow. Mind blown. I can see that you must hear this all the time, but it’s true. You’ve got an amazing style and make such beautiful garments (pink silk kimono?!…with peacocks!! ;)), that they could make anybody look awesome. Congrats! Now let me go and start pinning your outfits like crazy…:)
