I’m having a ball over at Sew Weekly, every week they announce a new sewing challenge and you have a week to complete the task, hence the name ‘Sew Weekly’. It’s kinda like Project Runway but online. It’s challenging and loads of fun, right up my ally. I figured I’d join to keep my sewing skills up and help broaden my wardrobe. Sounds good hey??
This weeks challenge was to recreate an outfit you once wore as a child. Luckily I was visiting my folks this week so I could raid their photo albums for a decent photo of myself when I was wee girl. This seemed to be the best one out of the lot and I certainly didn’t want to recreate a skivvy and brown cord trousers… meh!
Yep I’m a natural red head, strawberry blonde to be precise.
Here is my recreation of the pinny my mum had made me in 1975 the detail is really in the back of the dress.
I like the back it’s effective and I like the idea of wearing different shirts underneath to jazz things up a little.
I enjoyed making this challenge and will definitely wear it again. I need to find a better back drop this brick wall is just not cutting it.
Last weeks challenge was to whip up an apron, I don’t own an apron and didn’t really feel the need to have one because well, lets say I’m challenged in the kitchen, I really hate cooking except slow cooking that’s ace I love my slow cooker in fact I’ve got a rockin leg of lamb simmering away as I type. Here is my apron superimposed into an ‘all the rage’ retro kitchen. A 50′s house wife???!!!!! ha, far from it.

I was rather pleased with the outcome of this challenge too but not so pleased with the oompa loompa shorts I imagined up for the previous weeks challenge which was to finish an unfinished object, UFO eeeek.
arrrr they look much better hanging on the clothes line then off my 40 year old frame. I think if I had chosen a thicker fabric they may of worked out I enjoyed covering the buttons in the contrasting gingham fabric but other than that these were an epic fail.
One of the earlier challenges was to make an ugly pattern look somewhat decent. I picked an overall from the late 90′s, Reality Bites era. I think this pattern is a winner for the challenge. Ugly bug-uly.
Here is my updated interpretation of this pattern.
I love this outfit, I’ve worn it several times since it’s birth it’s just a bitch to get out of being an all-in-one. See my pom poms from my earlier post.
So there you have it my last months worth of Sew Weekly challenges. If you’re handy on the Janome you should definitely join in it’s challenging and loads of fun.
What have you made lately?
Au revoir.

I LOVE your outfit this week (in fact, I’ve loved all your outfits!) Super fabulous! The buttons are great, love the criss-cross back and the colors!! Great job!
